Although the Kinkakuji Temple has had 600 years or more of history since erection of the Muromachi period, in the meantime, the building is burned down several times. In the Onin War which bisected Kyoto in August, 1467, Yamana Sozen of the west army covered here the Kinkakuji Temple with the position, and almost all buildings were burned down by having developed the severe battle. Moreover, the Kinkakuji Temple reliquary hall was destroyed by fire by arson in 1850, and it is rebuilt in 1955 (Showa 30). The building of the present Kinkakuji Temple is re-covering gold leaf in 1987 (Showa 62). Although it was the Kinkakuji Temple which will pass from re-covering for about 20 years, gold leaf was still beautiful, and especially reflection of the snow-covered landscape of a winter season, and a blue sky and the gold leaf of the Kinkakuji Temple was brilliant.
